The 2024-25 Blazers Football season has come to an end and the Blazers finished the season above .500 with a 6-5 record. SCS moved the ball early against Cambridge but could not find the endzone eventually digging a big hole. The Blazers did not quite and stormed back in the 4
th quarter scoring 28 points but just ran out of time. Both teams combined for 42 points in the final frame.
Ben Milliken finished the game going 29 or 46 for 278 yards and 4 TDs.
Justin Brock had 8 catches and a TD,
Colton Loftus had 6 catches, and a TD and
Noah Spenn hauled in 2 TDs and a conversion.
Carson Spenn and
Alex Dominguez paced the defense with 13 tackles each. The Blazers did defeat the Lancers earlier in the year in a similar game that saw the Lancers coming from behind late.
There were definitely ups and downs throughout the season. Against our local teams, we played Out-of-Door at their place and played a very good second half in which we had the ball inside the redzone in the last few minutes with a chance to go ahead, and we played a solid game defensively against the Saint Stephen's Episcopal School Falcons in a 23-0 shutout to earn our first 11-man shutout. Splitting against our Sarasota/Manatee opponents with a +18 point margin against the two is a good start for the Blazers, who will need to add some size to the offensive and defensive lines next year. SeniorsÂ
Carson Spenn,Â
Ira Jackson,Â
Trey Featherston, EJ Jackson, andÂ
Randall Collins all spent a vast majority of snaps on the line on either side of the ball and the Blazers will need to add some depth to the line in order to give Junior quarterbackÂ
Ben Milliken time to run the offense the explosive Blazer offense.
Milliken threw for over 2300 yards on the season, with nearly 2000 of that being to his Junior receivers,Â
Colton Loftus (691),Â
Travis Miller (671), and
Justin Brock (595). Brock led the team in touchdowns scored with 10 receiving, 4 rushing, and 1 kickoff return for a touchdown.Â
Travis Miller brought down 8 in the endzone as a receiver andÂ
Noah Spenn finished with 6. Brock led the pass heavy team in rushing yards with 190 yards on the season.
Defensively SeniorÂ
Carson Spenn led the way with 86 tackles, while JuniorÂ
Collin Lawson finished with 73 and JuniorÂ
Jack Ford had 64. Spenn also had 5 sacks on the season, while fellow SeniorÂ
Randall Collins led the team with 6.5 sacks. The Blazers recovered 9 fumbles on the season and picked the ball off 4 times, while Ford andÂ
Carson Spenn each blocked two punts. The Blazers will return a vast talent to the 2025-26 Blazers, with seven future Seniors and seventeen incoming Juniors.
The Blazers completed 223 passes on the season while the national average for HS football was just 83. 33 TDs passes compared to an average of just 13. Milliken finished 16 in all of Florida in passing yards while Loftus, Miller and Brock where all in the top 10 in total catches.
Coach Spenn had this to say about he season, "We continue to exceed expectations and proud of how we played this season but more importantly the type of team we were and the growth I saw in them as men. I am looking forward to seeing that continued growth in our team as we start preparing for next year. Great time to be a Blazer!"
