Sub-Varsity Athletics' Philosophy

Sub-varsity athletics are all about growth and learning. We want to develop life-long skills that set athletes up to maximize their ability as seniors in high school and provide the best opportunity to extend their career beyond that point if they so desire.

Sub-varsity athletics have a lower commitment level and are mostly focused on in-season training verses year-round training. We want athletes to be Blazers and have opportunities to try as many sports as possible while still having time for school and church activities. All players will get playing time and at the lowest levels (MS B and C teams) coaches will work to have that time be be as close to equal as possible. Game experience makes it fun and are what keeps kids interested in continuing to play. We are serious about discipleship in our athletic programs and therefore we need kids to be on teams for multiple years so that coaches can be transformational in their lives.

We will all be on teams the rest of our lives and being a part of a great team that is centered on love, trust, and relationships, has value no matter what the scoreboard reads. We can be great at building great teams every year, no matter our athletic ability or the athletic ability of our opponents. The scoreboard is not the ultimate determiner of success. There are other ways to define winning and ultimately the true success of a season will be known in 10 to 15 years when we find out what kind of men and women our athletes become.

Ultimately, when a sub-varsity season ends, we hope your athlete will tell you they had a great time playing with their friends, they want to do it again next year, and that they want to find ways to improve on their own between this season and the next. And though they may not be able to verbalize this, we hope you see them have grown in their relationship with Christ.
