The Scholar Athlete Torch Award honors a male and female, junior or senior, athlete that has shown excellence in both the classroom and in athletic competition. The time commitment to maintain outstanding academics and excellent athletic skills is staggering and we want to recognize students for that ability. Both of our winners have weighted GPA's well above 4.0. Additional consideration is given to students that are noted by others to exemplify our core values and the four pillars of the mission of SCS in showing a Love for Christ, Passion to Learn, Courage to Lead and Commitment to Serve.
Caitlin Webb has a quiet strength on the courts and in the classroom. She never backs down from a challenge and is always striving to learn. Her teachers had this to say about her:
From Susan Hedgcock, "She embodies the true spirit of an academic-athlete, demonstrating incredible discipline in her rigorous pursuit of the AP Capstone diploma while maintaining unwavering dedication to her volleyball team. Her insightful research on summer reading, coupled with her active involvement in various school initiatives, underscores her steadfast commitment to becoming an educator and serving her community. Her loyalty, strong faith, and consistent dedication across academics, athletics, and service make her an exceptional role model for all."
From Russ Campbell, "She is a very engaged learner, pays great attention to detail, is helpful to her classmates and demonstrates a fundamental interest in learning."
Caitlin was a dominant volleyball player for us on the court and in the sand. She will certainly be missed in both those places along with the classroom.
