Elijiah George became the first 100 yard rusher in Blazers 11-man history. The Blazers where able to run the ball effectively behind some dominant offensive-line play by
Jacob Murray,
Avontae Harrison,
Cooper Bolen,
Jace Mayer and
Eli Mullett. George rushed for exactly 100 yards on 13 carries and Freshman
William Hughes added 82 yards on 9 carries. The offensive-line also provided great protection for Quarterback
Ben Milliken well, giving him time to complete 17 of 29 passes, including 4 Touchdown passes to
Justin Brock.
The Blazers where up 21-7 and looking break the game wide open when
Eli Ford got his first interception of the season early in the third quarter. The game was then hit with a lightning delay that interrupted the game for 52 minutes. Coming out of the delay, the Cougars had a good third quarter with a pick 6, returned 100 yards from the Blazers endzone, but the Blazer defense stopped them just short of tying up the game late in the third. The fourth quarter began with a second lightning delay of 45 minutes, afterwhich the Blazers offensive line took full control, enabling the Blazers running backs to move the ball easily down the field before Milliken hit Brock with their fourth Touchdown connection. The Blazers out gained the Cougars 396 to 205 and had 18 to 10 first downs. One key stat was the Blazers converted 3 of 5 on 4th down, including a Touchdown pass.
Alex Basilio-Dominguez was a force in the middle for the defense with 10 tackles.
Wyatt Campbell was also in on 10 tackles and
Shawn Georgiades recorded a sack.
Noah Spenn,
Matthew Manyak,
Travis Miller, and
Will Papineau were all in on tackles for loss.
On special teams freshmen kicker
Jack Campbell was perfect on PATs and the kickoff team put the defense in a good spot all night. The Blazers will travel to Saint Stephan's next Friday for a 7pm kickoff. Both teams are undefeated early in the season. The Blazers defeated the
Falcons last year 23-0.
