Coach Spenn is entering his 15th season as a head varsity head coach and his 23nd season coaching football. Coach Spenn now holds a career head coaching record of 97 and 61. Sarasota Christian will make the jump to 11-man this year with a roster of over 50 football players. They return the vast majority fo last years teams and for the first time will have seniors on the roster that have playing experience. The Blazers believe they can be competitive all season long at the 11-man level.
The Blazers are coming off of their 2nd season as an 8-man team where they advantaged to the state championship bracket and were ranked as high at 4th during the season. They finished 8-3 with losses to eventual champion and state runner up. The Blazers first season of football was impress as they went 7-5 and advanced to the SSAA 3A Conference Championship.
In 2021 he moved to Sarasota Florida to start the football program at Sarasota Christian School. The Blazer played one season of flag in his first year at the middle school level and are playing high school tackle football as an 8-man team in the SSAA for the first time in school history this year.
Prior to moving to Sarasota, he was the head varsity coach at Cypress Christian in Houston Texas for 12 seasons. Under his leadership they complied an 82 and 53 record as he built the program from 17 athletes to over 50 at the high school level. In 2017 the Warriors finished the season as the Division III State Champion and Coach Spenn was named the TAPPS 4A coach of the year. In addition to the state title Coach Spenn recorded four district championship, 9 trips to the playoffs and an 8-8 playoff record.
Coach Spenn earned four collegiate letters at Taylor University (’95-’98) as a wide receiver and prior to that he was a standout wide receiver at Watseka High School in Illinois.
His passion is for mentoring and building Godly men through the game of football. Everything the football program does is based on building men, not just physically but spiritually as well. It will be years before the true success of the football team is known but he is committed to being transformational in the lives of every player.
