The Scholar Athlete Torch Award honors a male and female junior or senior athlete that have shown both excellence in the classroom and in athletic competition. The time commitment to maintain outstanding academics and excellent athletic skills is staggering and we want to recognize students for that ability. Additional consideration is given to students that are noted by others to exemplify the four pillars of the mission of SCS in showing a Love for Christ, Passion to Learn, Courage to Lead and Commitment to Serve.
Elise Kelley maintains a GPA of over 4.0 and has distinguished herself as a selfless teammate. She has been accepted to more than 10 top tier colleges across the country and while she has chosen to only pursue academics in college it is not because she did not have the athletic ability. She is one of the top passers in the state of Florida for volleyball and recorded over 1,000 career digs. When she traded the hardwood for the sand, she was no less dominating in her defense and if it had not been for the conflict in seasons, she would have been an outstanding Blazer tennis player as well. She was a captain of the volleyball team and has shown the characteristics of the SCS mission since she enrolled in Kindergarten. Dr. Fisk had this to say, "She is always pleasant and fun to work with in class. She is inquisitive and always willing to ask questions to help her understand the material; but don't ask her to do math!"
