The Blazers soccer team took on the TCA Patriots in the first round of the district tournament Thursday evening. The long anticipated third matchup between these teams this season not only met, but exceeded expectations. The Blazers started out hot, with 3 shots in the first 20 minutes, to the Patriots 1. The following 20 minutes were back and forth, both teams creating chances, but neither able to capitalize. The scoreboard read 0-0 heading into halftime. The story of the second half was pressure created by the Patriots. Constant chances for the Patriots eventually lead to one being put in the back of the net with 8 minutes remaining in the game. Despite the 1-0 deficit, the Blazers continued to fight for chances, and in the final minutes of regulation,
Jack Ford capitalized off of a cross from
Judah Avery, sending the game to extra time 1-1. The tie game did not last long, as the Patriots took a 2-1 lead 3 minutes into extra time, on the first shot of the added period. The Blazers controlled play for the final 17 minutes of play, but did not score in time, losing the game 2-1. The heartbreaking loss ended the Blazers season, but not without a silver lining. The team played possibly their strongest game of the season, bouncing back from adversity throughout the game, and refusing to give up no matter how slim the chances. The heart shown in this game will be a point of focus at the start of the 2023-24 season, with this young core looking to continue developing into a well-oiled machine. The soccer program's future is looking bright.
