The Lady Blazers soccer team picked up their first win of the season in dramatic fashion Friday night. The Lady Eagles came to Sarasota Christian looking for their second win of the season. The first ten minutes of the game started out slow, with the two teams feeling each other out. As the Lady Blazers gained confidence they began to create more chances, with Hailey Bolton getting several shots off. Despite the controlled play for the Lady Blazers, late in the first half the Lady Blazers gave up the first goal of the game, and entering half time the score was 1-0 in favor of the Lady Eagles.
The second half brought excitement, with the Lady Blazers constantly getting good shots at the SMA net, trying to tie the game up.
Selah Spenn had several shots on goal and controlled the middle of the field for the Blazers as they continued to battle. Finally, with 8 minutes remaining in the game,
Ainsley Wiegand chipped the ball over the opposing goalie, tying the game at 1. Inspired by Ainsley's goal, the Lady Blazers continued to fight, and three minutes later,
Olivia McCoy put the ball in the back with a great crossing shot to the opposite post. This was her third goal of the season and it lifted the Lady Blazers to a 2-1 win over the Lady Eagles. The Lady Blazers hope to carry this momentum into their next game against the Dr. Kiran C. Patel Mustangs Tuesday night.
