The Blazers tennis team looked for redemption against the North Port Bobcats Tuesday night, after losing to them 0-7 twice last season. The Blazers made the trip down to North Port ready for a battle.
Isaiah Ledford and
Donovan Beita started the match off on the right foot, taking down Jacob Geier and Cole Holmgren 9-7. The Bobcats tied the match at 1, with
Ira Jackson and
Trenton Byers falling to Logan Early and Preston Douglas 1-8.
The Blazers needed to win 3 out of the 5 singles matches to take home the victory. In the match of the 4 seeds,
Trenton Byers once again lost at the hands of Preston Douglas, 6-4/6-4, giving the Bobcats a 2-1 lead. Shortly after Logan Early took down 3 seed
Alex Negron 6-4/6-4, meaning the Blazers needed to win the final three singles matches to win.
Ira Jackson started the comeback attempt well, defeating Jacob Mackey 6-3/7-5, narrowing the Blazers deficit to 1.
Isaiah Ledford continued the Blazers momentum, winning the 1 seed match 6-4/6-2 over Jacob Geier, tying the match a 3 each.
The final match between
Donovan Beita and Cole Holmgren would decide it all. In a match of first to 8 games, Beita fell behind 3-7. With seemingly all hope lost, Donovan caught fire, winning four straight games, getting the match to a 7 point tiebreak. Donovan took care of business, winning the tiebreak 7-3, giving the Blazers a 4-3 win over the Bobcats, and a 2-0 record on the season.
