2023 Female Blazer of the Year: Rylin Spenn

The Blazer of the Year Award recognizes a male and female, sophomore or older, who is committed to building great teams. They are encouragers and competitors. These student-athletes do not follow the crowd, they are leaders. They have the conviction to stay focused and press on, when others would simply quit or take the easy way out. In short, they are great teammates that set a Christ-like example for all to follow. They represent the qualities of a true Blazer athlete.

It is not often that you can look at a season and see one person hold a team together. The girls soccer program had a tough year, but all season, there was a voice from the goal imploring her teammates to keep going. To play to the end regardless of the score, loving and encouraging her teammates, regardless of the circumstances. It was on the field and in every huddle, and it truly kept a team together. Any team can be a great team to be on when you have teammates like that. Coach Ledford had this to say about her, "She was always quick to build players up with a word of encouragement and praise. At the same time, she would occasionally show tough love by being willing to challenge and correct players as well as the team as a whole when she felt like it was needed. She was clearly the most vocal member of the team, and the team  naturally looked to her for guidance and support. Perhaps, what stands out most to me out of all of her leadership attributes is that she exemplified honesty and integrity in everything that she did. I even had an official  come over to me during one of our last games and point out that she had informed the official that she had been the last player to touch the ball when he was ready to award us a goal kick.  This demonstrated her commitment to playing the right way". It was clear by the coaches and the players impressions of her, that she was an admired and respected leader, deserving of this valued award.

This years Female Blazer of the Year award was given to Rylin Spenn.
