The Scholar Athlete Torch Award honors a male and female, junior or senior, athlete that has shown excellence in both the classroom and in athletic competition. The time commitment to maintain outstanding academics and excellent athletic skils is staggering and we want to recognize students for that ability. Additional consideration is given to students that are noted by others to exemplify the four pillars of the mission of SCS in showing a Love for Christ, Passion to Learn, Courage to Lead, and Commitment to Serve.

This year's female Torch Award winner is an outstanding student and member of the National Honor Society. She also has a love of art, as is shown by her participation in the chalk festival each year. "As a junior, Reese continued to strive for excellence in the classroom, earning a GPA of 4.25 and she helped captain both the varsity girls basketball and varsity softball teams this year at SCS. Recovery from a sophomore  year ACL injury was full of physical and mental challenges, but Reese was determined to contribute to her teammates' success and her coaches' leadership. Although she wasn't able to compete with her basketball teammates on the court this past winter, she supported the girls during practices and utilized her prior playing experience to lead alongside the coaching staff during games. On the varsity softball team this spring, Reese was able to take the field and earned the Most Improved Player award by helping to anchor the Blazers infield at first base, while hitting .357 with 5 doubles and 15 RBI's. Reese's example of hard work and perseverance as both a student in the classroom and as a competitive athlete are two of her most special character traits. Coach Deb White had her in class for a few courses, as well as on the softball field, and has this to say about her, "Reese is a blessing on the field or in the classroom. As an athlete and a student, Reese is diligent, honest, and reliable. In class she readily participates in discussions, encourages classmates, and is joyful no matter the situation. This is reflected in her excellent grades. I greatly enjoy having Reese in class". Congratulations to the 2022-23 Female Torch Award winner, Junior Reese Scholl.
