The Blazers Girls Soccer team (2-0) traveled to Booker HS on Wednesday night for a tough game against the Tornadoes (0-2-1). Both teams went into the game giving up two goals or fewer per game so far on the season and proved that both teams have great defenses. The lone goal would come after the Blazers earned a corner kick in the thirty-third minute as
Reagan Volkert showed off her speed down the right sideline with the ball and struck the ball off the Tornado goalkeeper and past the end line. Blazer Forward Brooklynn Mruczek took the corner kick and found the feet of Blazer Goalie
Brooklyn Loftus (1) for the goal. This marked the second goal scored by the duo in the goalkeeper position this season with Mruczek scoring on a penalty kick against Admiral Farragut while wearing the pink goalkeeper jersey in the season opener. From there, both defenses held strong the rest of the way as the game ended 1-0 in favor of the Blazers.
Coach Armand has this to say about the win:
"These girls continue to work hard for each other and it's great to see. The result could have probably been 3-0 in our favor, but I am just as happy to have kept them at 0 considering the defensive principles we've targeted since last game."
The Blazers will be back in action next Tuesday as they try to remain unbeaten when they host Cambridge Christian (1-1), who is coming off of a shutout win on Tuesday against Universal Academy in their own 1-0 game. The girls home opener will start at 5pm, with the boys beginning shortly after the games conclusion at 7pm, also against the Lancers.
