The Blazer Girls Soccer team faced off against Cambridge Christian School on Tuesday evening in their home season opener. The Blazers looked to overcome a 1-0 loss from last season to begin the season against the Lancers and came out strong defensively, holding the Lancer offense to zero goals until the late stages of the match to win 2-1. The Blazers scored first as
Gabriella DaSilva took a throw-in and led
Reagan Volkert down the line. Volkert (3) took the ball and pushed it into the middle of the field in front of the goal, then connected with a left footed shot that shot past the Lancer goalkeeper and into the corner of the goal to make it 1-0. It would remain at 1-0 for most of the game as neither team would score until the Blazers added on to their lead.
Brooklyn Mruczek would attack and win a battle against the Lancer goalkeeper and the ball found its way to Volkert (4) on the left side of the goal for her second of the game. The lone goal for the Lancers would come late in the game as the Lancers received a penalty kick as a result of a handball inside the penalty box and were able to push it past
Haley Bolton and into the net. Bolton and Mruczek combined for the win in goal as the Blazers remain unbeaten on the year.
The Blazers will travel to The Classical Academy of Sarasota for a tough match-up against the Patriots on Friday afternoon at 5pm.
