The Sarasota Christian girls soccer program beat Winthrop College Preparatory Academy to improve to a record of 5-1-1 on the season.
Gabi DaSilva scored the opening goal in the first half to put the Blazers up 1-0, marking her second goal in as many games.
Haley Bolton would block a Spartan pass and it would deflect towards the goal and land at
Brooklyn Mruczek's feet. Mruczek would attract the goal and direct the ball to a waiting DaSilva (2), who popped the ball into the open goal.
Haley Bolton then doubled the Blazer lead with her second goal of the season from a fantastic left-footed strike.
Brooklyn Mruczek would get the push forward started as she'd find Bolton with a pass off of the defender. Bolton (2) took a touch past the defender and then unloaded a shot that clanged against the far goal post and landed in the back of the net for the goal to make it 2-0.
Selah Spenn added a third goal in the second half to finish Winthrop off. Bolton would get this goal started as she turned the ball inside and dropped off a pass to Spenn. Spenn (3) then turned and took a few touches before launching a strike towards the corner and burying the ball in the goal. Spenn has now scored goals in three straight games.
Brooklyn Loftus and
Brooklyn Mruczek shared the shutout in goal while each also having three shots on target while on the field.
Sarasota Christian enters as the #1 seed into the WCAC conference playoffs starting this week as they play against Sarasota Military Academy on Thursday December 11th at 6pm. The Blazers beat SMA 8-1 earlier this season.
Quote by Coach Dikranian.
"I give a lot of credit to the team. It's tough to highlight just a few names when you want to make mention of pretty much the whole group. Everyone played a part in this one. We are rolling with good confidence, and have been able to do so resting key players as well."
