Lady Blazers Soccer traveled to Fort Myers on Tuesday for a match-up against Southwest Florida Christian School.
Reagan Miller (1) opened up her season goal count off of a corner kick.
Brooklyn Mruczek would take the corner and cross the ball to
Anna Clippard on the near post. Clippard took a shot for the goal and a King's defender blocked the ball, with the rebound bouncing right to Miller's feet and she calmly pushed it past the goalkeeper and into the corner of the net to go up 1-0. The Blazers would score again in the 20th minute off of a throw in by
Selah Spenn. Spenn's throw in was just a foot out of the reach of Blazer
Reagan Volkert, but the bounce off the defender brought the ball to Volkert's waiting feet and she found a waiting Mruczek (2) in front of the goal, who launched the ball past the goalkeeper for goal number 2. SFCA would score in the 15th and 30th minutes in the first half and the teams were headed towards halftime when
Reagan Volkert would earn a free direct kick just outside of the penalty box.
Selah Spenn would come forward to take the direct kick and launched it expertly over the goalkeeper and into the goal to go into halftime with a 3-2 halftime lead. But the Blazers were unable to get a goal in the second half and with time winding down, the Kings would score twice in the final 5 minutes to earn the victory.
Quote by Coach Dikranian.
"We scored three first half goals, which is a high for us in one half all year. Our defense played very well against a team that had a few pretty talented players. For 75 minutes it was our best game of the season. We were 5 minutes away from being 4-0-1 on the season. We'll do video with the team like we do after every game and pay attention to some details; and like every next game has been, we'll just keep working to get better and move forward."
The Blazers will play its next game home on Friday against Sarasota Military Academy at 5pm on Elementary Night.
