For the first time in eleven years, the Blazer Boys Soccer program has been victorious in an FHSAA district game.
As the boys took the field in their new blues on Wednesday evening against The Classical Academy of Sarasota, there was a sense of confidence about the team. Led by
Eli Ford out onto the field to do battle, the team huddled before spreading out into positions and open the game with the opening touch. The Blazers would immediately go on the offensive, scoring the games first goal in just the third minute of play. The Blazers'
Noah Ovalle would take a throw-in and land it at
Cristian Sadelson's waiting feet. Cristian would carry the ball past a few defenders before touching the ball as he was falling and finding the feet of
Jack Campbell. Campbell (7) took a one-touch shot and found the inside corner of the goal to make it 1-0 Blazers. The Blazers would score again in the 13th minute from the feet of
Adrian Sadelson.
Jack Campbell got the play started by taking a throw-in from near the corner on the right side of the field. The ball would find the feet of
Eli Ford and with one touch he'd find Sadelson. Sadelson (2) would launch a beautiful shot past the Patriot Goalkeeper and into the corner of the goal to go up 2 goals to none. The Patriots would get their lone goal in the 36th minute after a corner kick snuck through near the top of the penalty box and a Patriot forward found the ball and launched it past Blazer Goalkeeper
Matthew Manyak to make it 2-1. Goal number three for the Blazers would come in the 4th minute of the second half as the Blazers would score off of a beautiful free kick by
Robin Jasek that nearly snuck past the Patriot Goalkeeper. The ball was just inside the reach of the goalkeeper and bounced from his hands to the cross bar and to the waiting feet of
Jack Campbell, all alone in front of the goal. Campbell (8) calmly touched the ball in the opposite direction as the goalkeeper and netted his second goal of the game. Jasek would lead the charge again for the fourth goal as he'd take a free kick just on the Blazers side of the halfway line and launch a booming kick towards the corner. Campbell would reach it just before it went over the end line and direct it back in front of the goal. The ball trickled through a defender and
Owen Donato (10) reached it before the goalkeeper and pounded it into the net to push the lead to three at 4-1 just a minute after it become 3-1. The final goal would come five minutes later after
Eli Ford (5) found a rebound off of a
Cristian Sadelson shot and drove it home to make the final score 5-1.
The Blazers will head to Saint Stephen's Episcopal School on Friday for a District Semi-final match-up against the Falcons.
