The Blazer Girls Basketball team traveled to Braden River High School on Thursday night for their second match-up with the Pirates this season. In game one, the Pirates flew out to a big 11 point lead after the first quarter and didn't look back as they pounded the Blazers 56-25. Game two looked to be the same as the Pirates came out to a 13 point lead after blanking the Blazers in the first quarter. But the Blazers took control in the second quarter, going on their own 15-1 run to begin the quarter and went into halftime with a 3 point deficit. The third quarter was much of the same as the Blazers controlled the quarter from the start, going on a 17-2 run to begin the quarter and heading into the fourth with a six point lead. In the fourth quarter, both teams scored well ending the quarter in a 10-10 tie and sealing the victory for the Blazers at 42-36. The Blazers were led by
Nikki Olupitan with 14 points and
Brenda Bresciani with her tenth double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The win is a huge one for the Blazers as they head into the FHSAA tournament next week and are currently ranked 5th in the region behind Victory Christian by a very slim margin and now have a great chance of rising above Victory and hosting a regional quarterfinal match-up between the two teams.
