Blazers Soar Over Falcons

Blazer Girls Soccer moved to 7-3-1 as they hosted the Falcons from Universal Academy on Tuesday. The Blazers controlled the game well, scoring four goals in the first 40 minutes. The first came from the feet of Selah Spenn in the 10th minute as she chased down a pass from Brooklyn Mruczek. Selah (6) won the chase, took one touch and then punched the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net to make it 1-0. Four minutes later, Spenn would lead the charge towards the goal. A slide tackle from behind would upset Spenn's shot on goal and direct the ball off the goalkeeper and towards Blazer forward Reagan Volkert. Volkert (7) finished the play up by quickly placing the ball into the back of the net before the goalkeeper could recover, making the score 2-0. Goal number three would come five minutes after the first water break as Kendal Chidester would deflect a pass from the defensive back line and Spenn would win the race to the ball. Spenn (7) would slice and dice through several Falcon defenders and finally find a chance to strike the ball towards the goal, burying it in the back of the net for a 3-0 lead. The Blazers would score once more right before the end of the half as Reagan Miller would push the ball forward the Brooklyn Loftus. Loftus (3) would take one touch that bounded towards the goal, then recover the rebound from the goalkeeper and launch it into the back of the net, sending the game into halftime with a 4-0 advantage to the Blazers. The score would remain 4-0 until right before the second half water break when Loftus led a break towards the Falcons goal. Loftus would draw multiple defenders before finding Chidester, who then passed the ball off to Reagan Volkert. Volkert lifted the ball over the goalkeepers head and into the corner of the net for goal number 5. The Blazers would score one final time in the 25th minute of the second half to make the final score 6-0. On the play, Brooklyn Loftus would get credit for the goal as she'd win a challenge for the ball and send it towards a defender. The ball bounced off the defenders foot and bounded past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The Blazers will head to Babcock Ranch High School in Punta Gorda on Friday evening for a battle against Patel High School (3-5-1) at 7pm as part of the Sunshine State Athletic Association's State Championship bracket. Patel is coming off of a tough 5-4 loss to Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate on Wednesday evening.
