Blazer Girls Tennis continued their strong play on day two,
Semifinals
Number one doubles partners
Aubrey Eggebrecht and
Stella Melchiorre played strong throughout their semifinals match, losing the first set 4-6 and then coming back to win the second set 6-2 and tie-breaker 10-7. The win lifts the duo into the district championship against Admiral Farragut's Mya Clarke and Marley Roslansky. As a pair, the Blue Jackets are undefeated this year 13-0, while the Blazer duo is now 8-2 with a good shot at giving Admiral's 1's their first loss of the year.
Two doubles duo
Emma Ferraro and
Haley Bolton were dominant in their semifinal match, winning 6-0 6-1, pitting them up against Pine View's Isabella Zmiyiwsky and Hailey Han in the district championship match. The Freshman/Senior duo is 4-2 on the season, while the Blazer senior duo of Ferraro/Bolton is 5-1 in 2's and 2-0 in 1's. The match-up will be much tougher than the semifinal against Admiral Farragut's 2's.
In number five singles,
Sophia Ocasio came out firing the ball at her Out-of-Door counterpart Lily Levinson, making quick work of the match by 6-2 and 6-0 scores to punch her ticket to the number five singles district championship match.
In number three singles
Haley Bolton made quick work of her opponent from Bradenton Christian 6-1 & 6-2 to make her way into the 3's final against Pine View's Caroline Cannon.
In
Emma Ferraro's 4's semifinal match, Ferraro came out to the 6-3 win in the first set and then suffered an ankle sprain late in the second set before losing the set 4-6 and entering into a ten point tie-breaker. In the ten point tie-breaker, Ferraro found her way to victory as she outlasted the Pine View 4's Hailey Han 10-5 to win the match. Ferraro's championship opponent will be Bradenton Christian's Lyla Van Eerden.
District Finals
In the 1's doubles district championship, the Blazers just couldn't get started in the first set, losing it 6-2 to Farragut. In set two, the teams went back and forth, with Admiral Farragut coming out on top of the very contested set 7-5 and claiming the 1's doubles district championship.
In 2's doubles, Ferraro and Bolton secured the District Finals victory 6-3 6-0 as the duo would not be denied the doubles victory.
In 2's singles Eggebrecht had a tough time against Admiral Farraguts Marley Roslansky, finding it very difficult to score against the talented 6th grader, falling 6-2 6-0.
Bolton would take to the court a fourth time on Tuesday, twice in doubles and twice in singles. In the 3's finals, Bolton would fall in the first set, but found a way to complete the comeback and force a tie-breaker. In the tie-breaker, Bolton dominated, taking the match 2-6 7-5 10-4 to secure her second district final victory of the day.
Ferraro's fourth trip to the court wasn't as successful for the Blazer as she couldn't get started against Bradenton Christian's Lyla Van Eerden, falling 6-4 and 6-1.
In the fives singles final,
Sophia Ocasio came through with a strong victory in set one before dropping the second set, leading to a 10 point tie-breaker. Down early in the tie-breaker, Ocasio found the strength to come back and won the match in extras 6-4 2-6 11-9.
Wrap up
The Blazers played for every district final except the 1's singles, winning three out of the six matches. The Blazers claimed the team title and will advance everyone into the team regional tournament, which will be played next Tuesday.
