On Tuesday afternoon, the tennis teams faced off against the Bruins of Bayshore High School. Prior to the game, the team and families gathered to celebrate the career of senior
Maci Voigt with gifts, snacks, and memories. Coach Tedder led the way with a heartfelt message about Maci's career and how she will be missed by everyone, followed by Coach Smith reading off a little information about Maci and her future.
The girls match could have gone either way, with several sets being very close.
Emma Ferraro came up short in the match-up of #1's for the girls, losing 3-6.
Haley Bolton (#2's) and
Stella Melchiorre (#3's) both came up with individual 8-1 wins for the lone SCS wins of the day.
Kaylan Weeks played a strong set, but ended up losing 3-6 in the #4 singles, and
Ainsley Wiegand dropped her singles match 4-8 as well. In the doubles, both the #1's (Ferraro and Bolton) & #2's (
Alison Smith &
Maci Voigt) battled hard, but couldn't come through with wins, dropping both sets 8-6. The Lady Blazers dropped the match 2-5 to bring their record to 5-8 on the season.
The boys match could have gone either way as well, with all but one match being decided by a few points. Isaiah Ledford couldn't get started against the Bruins #1 and dropped his singles match 2-8. Trent Byers (#2's, 6-8) & Noah Luna (#3's, 5-8) both battled hard, but weren't able to overcome the Bruins #2's and #3's. In doubles, Ledford and Byers played well together, but ended up on the losing side of the #1 doubles by a score of 6-8. The Blazers dropped the match 4-3, bringing their record to 9-8 on the season.
Both teams will be back in action next week at the FHSAA District Tournament.
