The Scholar Athlete Torch Award honors a male and female junior or senior athlete that have shown both excellence in the classroom and in athletic competition. The time commitment to maintain outstanding academics and excellent athletic skills is staggering and we want to recognize students for that ability. Additional consideration is given to students that are noted by others to exemplify the four pillars of the mission of SCS in showing a Love for Christ, Passion to Learn, Courage to Lead and Commitment to Serve.

Tyler Klinger maintained a weighted GPA of over 4.0.  He has been a committed basketball player and was a team captain who provided a needed spark in many games during this season's historic 14 game winning streak. This year he added baseball to his list of sports to help provide senior leadership, play with his friends and ultimately help them to an excellent season. In a slightly different role that showed his leadership, he took over the organization of the eSports teams and in the role of player/coach he led the team to the SSAC Spring Tournament State Championship. He has been at SCS since 7^th grade and been noted to display the characteristics of the SCS mission.  Dr. Fisk had this to say, "He is always argumentative but in a positive way. He is ready to challenge statements made at any time to attempt to show his knowledge of a subject or attempt to better understand the material being discussed. He can be counted on to participate in class discussions of any topic."
