Male Blazer of the Year-Travis Miller

The Blazer of the Year Award recognizes a male and female, sophomore or older, who is committed to building great teams. They are encouragers and competitors. These student-athletes do not follow the crowd, they are leaders. They have the conviction to stay focused and press on, when others would simply quit or take an easy way out. In short, they are great teammates that set a Christ-like example for all to follow. They live out our core values of and represent the qualities of a true Blazer athlete.

This year's Male Blazer of the Year award is going to a student-athlete that excelled in three sports. While he was never the spotlight guy, he was Mr. Clutch and would come through with the big plays when the game was on the line. In football, whether he was catching a pass or taking the ball from Avontae on the reverse, he'd find a way to weave through the defense and get into the endzone. In basketball, he'd quietly drain the biggest three of the game. And in volleyball, he 'd come up with a big play when the team needed it most.

From Coach Bru, "He embodies everything that is good about Sarasota Christian Athletics. He has a great attitude, works hard, is a great teammate, doesn't care who gets the credit for the team's success, and was always ready when the opportunity presented itself. Here are three quick moments that I personally will remember forever: Up 1 vs ODA at home with 1:15 to go… He makes a corner 3 to give us the first season sweep of ODA in over a decade. Up 2 vs Lakewood Ranch with 2:10 to go in the game… He bangs a corner 3 to lock up the 1 seed in the District Tournament. Up 4 in the District Championship with 1:45 left to play, he scored our last field goal of the game to win the District Title. I hope I get the opportunity to coach a lot more kids like him."

From Coach Spenn, "Coaches often talk about glue guys and he is certainly one of them. Always there, always doing their job, helping others, being  a great teammate, encouraging, playing with passion and in so many ways just holding the team together. He is just an unselfish hard working guy that has been a blessing to coach."

The Male Blazer of the Year award goes to Travis Miller.
