The Blazer of the Year Award recognizes the top male and female student-athlete who want to make a difference and change the world for the better. In every situation, they maintain a positive outlook with the unfailing faith that things will work out because of their hope in Christ. They have confidence to face their fears straight on and press beyond them. These student-athletes do not follow the crowd, no matter how comfortable or easy it may be to conform. They have the conviction to stay focused on what matters most and ignore distractions that will take them away from making a big impact. These student-athletes are willing to press on when others would simply quit or take an easy way out. In short, they are great teammates that set a Christ like example for all to follow. They represent the qualities of a true Blazer athlete. This year's male award winner is
Nick Webb. Nick has been a leader not only on the basketball court and baseball field but throughout the school. Here are a few quotes from people that know him well:
Nick has been described as incredibly selfless and steadfast in his walk. He is credited for a love of Jesus Christ and for his positive energy, attitude and ability, as the reason he helped every player in the program get better.
"Nick epitomizes what Sarasota Christian is all about. He is the dream teammate. He truly cared about the team's success and cared immensely about every member of our team. His positive energy was infectious…"
- Coach Bocock, Head Baseball Coach
"Nick exemplifies many characteristics of Jesus and carried out God's mission daily. He was always the first to lend a helping hand to those in need, and always lead from the front by good example. (He) Blazed a trail for those to follow by being an authentic Man of God and always letting the Holy Spirit shine through him."
- Coach Bruinsma, Head Basketball Coach
Finally, his father wrote this "To whom much is given, much is expected. My son has been given a lot of talents, and I am very proud to see him utilizing those gifts, not for his own glory, but for the glory of Jesus Christ. He has grown athletically, academically, and spiritually in his years at SCS. I look forward to how God will continue to use him for His divine purpose in the years to come."
Congratulations to
Nick Webb for an outstanding career that also pointed people towards Christ and lived out the mission of SCS.
