The Scholar Athlete Torch Award honors a male and female, Junior or Senior, athlete that has shown excellence in both the classroom and in athletic competition. The time commitment to maintain outstanding academics and excellent athletic skils is staggering and we want to recognize students for that ability. Additional consideration is given to students that are noted by others to exemplify the four pillars of the mission of SCS in showing a Love for Christ, Passion to Learn, Courage to Lead, and Commitment to Serve.

Our male Torch award winner is a young man that is an exceptional student and is a member of the National Honor Society. Simon has a GPA of 3.97 and plans to attend the University of South Florida, studying Business, next year. His teachers had this to say about him, "Simon is not only an excellent student, but he is a real joy to have in class. He is happy to help others, always has a kind word, and sets a great example to his classmates. I can't think of a better individual to receive the Torch award this year! Simon will be missed." (Deb White), and "Simon is a hard worker and helps others. He motivates his classmates and pushes himself and others in class. He always wants to know the reason behind the different topics, not just how to solve them. He is a model student" (Michael Tedder). As an athlete, he has filled a need and committed to doing whatever was asked of him. He gave his all on the floor and truly closed the gap between his potential and performance. His senior year saw him as a varsity starter with a team high of 132 rebounds. Coach Bru had this to say about him, "Believe it or not, we had to convince Simon to play Basketball this year. Not only did he play, but he started every single game and was an incredible teammate and friend to all of the guys in the Basketball program. He excelled academically, and was a true student-athlete that we were fortunate to have in our program." 

The 2022-23 Male Scholar Athlete Torch Award winner is Simon Dik.
