Boys Basketball Completes Weekly Sweep

It's not often our Blazers JV and Varsity programs complete 3 game sweeps in the same week, but this week both teams did so, going 6-0 as a high school basketball program. It started with wins of 58-51 (JV) and 60-52 (V) at Out-of-Door Academy on Tuesday and was followed wins of 56-29 (JV) and 65-26 (V) against Gulf Coast Heat on Thursday and wins of 63-22 (JV) and 70-49 (V) on Friday evening against Community Christian. The JV moves to 8-2 and the Varsity moves to 7-3 on the season.

Friday night's Varsity game started out very much the way the Blazers wanted it to with a 25-6 lead after the first quarter. The Blazers would come out hot, hitting their first three shots from outside the three point line and taking a quick 15-4 lead. The Blazers would shoot 5-8 from three point range in the first quarter. The Blazers wouldn't look back from there as they downed the Crusaders 70-49. Justin Brock (71%) and Ben Milliken (41%) both came away with 5 three pointers in the game, while Drew Sirianni (50%) also drained two from beyond the arc. The Blazers had a well balanced attack on the evening, having four players reach double figures. Milliken led the way with 19 points, while Brock dropped in 17 points of his own. Noah Spenn (12 points) and Drew Sirianni (10 points) also scored in double figures on the game. Spenn also earned his second double-double of his Junior season with 12 rebounds, while Milliken (8 assists) and Brock (9 assists) narrowly missed double-doubles of their own. With his 19 points, Ben Milliken has moved from fourth to second on the known list of all time leading scorers at Sarasota Christian School behind SCS Board Member Mitch Helmuth's 1695 points. Milliken will now chase Helmuth for the remainder of his senior season, needing to score 383 points in the final 15 games plus tournament games to break the record.
