The Boys' Blazers basketball teams hit the court on Friday, December 5th, for another exciting home match-up—this time against Saint Stephen's Episcopal. This game was highly anticipated, as the Blazers knew the Falcons would be one of the toughest opponents on their schedule this season.
The Blazers got off to a slow start, falling behind 25–11 after the first quarter. But the deficit didn't shake their confidence. They came out firing in the second quarter and cut the gap to 34–25 by halftime. Ben Milliken got the scoring started in the second quarter, scoring 7 straight points to come within 7 of the Falcons. But the Falcons went on their own 7 point run and the lead was quickly back to 14 with 2 minutes to go in the second quarter. Justin Brock and Milliken would both hit baskets to bring it back to within 9 going into halftime. During halftime, Athletic Director Jacob Spenn would sweep up the dust off the floor and I believe that was what brought around the turnaround as the Blazers regained their footing in the game. Drew Sirianni would get things rolling for the Blazers and Noah Spenn would take a charge and get the Blazers the ball back on the next possession. Travis Miller sank four free throws and Brock found the bottom of the net three times to bring the lead to 4 going into the fourth quarter. Sirianni would sink two free throws and Miller drained a jumper from behind the arc to bring the lead to 1. Then Noah Spenn and a Falcon would battle for a rebound and both came stumbled out of the battle, with the ball bouncing straight to Milliken for a basket as Spenn would get fouled away from the ball and give the Blazers the lead with the ball. Travis Miller would follow that up with a basket to push the lead to 3. But the Blazers couldn't get the ball to go through the net for the next four minutes, ultimately falling 53-47.
The second half was a thriller. With intensity on both ends of the floor, the Blazers battled their way back and tied the game at 46–46 in the fourth quarter.
