2023 Male Blazer of the Year: Randall Collins

The Blazer of the Year Award recognizes a male and female, sophomore or older, who is committed to building great teams. They are encouragers and competitors. These student-athletes do not follow the crowd, they are leaders. They have the conviction to stay focused and press on, when others would simply quit or take the easy way out. In short, they are great teammates that set a Christ-like example for all to follow. They represent the qualities of a true Blazer athlete.

Randall Collins was given the award for 2023 Male Blazer of the Year. The Blazer of the year award is often explained as going to a person who exemplifies what it means to be a teammate. Randall did that across three sports. His effort, determination, and love for competition were contagious and  roster sizes increased because people wanted to play with him. In each of his three sports, he played different roles. That didn't stop him from always encouraging his teammates and pushing them to be their best.

Coach Bocock showed his admiration toward Randall when he said, "Randall's athleticism was on display for 3 sports this year and is the true picture of being a Blazer. His commitment on and off the field to athletics shows in the classroom and on the hardwood, gridiron and diamond. Randall sets the standard for what it means to be a Blazer athlete. His leadership is always on display and typically some passion is thrown in there too. Congratulations Randall, it's a pleasure to coach you".

The head coach of boys basketball, Coach Bruinsma spoke on the importance that Randall plays in Blazer athletics. "Randall possesses the two intangible qualities that will make him successful in life. He competes his tail off, and he truly cares. If you play as hard as he does, and care about the team's success as much as he does, it's hard to not be successful. If you look at his Sophomore year alone… SSAC All-State in Football, Starter and leader in Basketball, and MVP in Baseball. The reality of why he had a great year isn't a secret… He just plays harder and cares more than others."

Only in his Sophomore year, Randall will continue to have an important impact of the Blazer culture for years to come.
