The Lady Blazers softball team is headed to Orlando on Friday to take on the 6-8 All Saints' Academy in the Sunshine State Athletic Association's 3A Championships. The teams played earlier in the season in a 52 run game that could have gone either way, but ultimately ended with the Lady Blazers on the losing side 21-31. In that game, the Lady Blazers held a huge advantage hitting-wise, 20 to 5, but had issues on the mound against the Saints. The Lady Blazers have since improved on the mound and look to take home the victory on Friday to advance to Saturday's 3A Championship game.
Ashton Klinger is expected to make the start for the Lady Blazers as our most experienced pitcher on the mound, while the Saint's will throw either Alexis Martin or Skylynn Gaskin. In the previous meeting, Martin started the game and went just two innings, giving up 13 runs, 7 earned, on 7 hits and 6 walks. She was relieved by Gaskin for the last three innings, giving up 8 runs, 5 earned, on 11 hits. The Lady Blazers will look to some hot bats as
Selah Spenn (.500, 16 RBI),
Ashton Klinger (.448, 13 RBI),
Reese Scholl (.444, 17 RBI) &
Ella Aylsworth (.433, 11 RBI), will all need to hit the ball well to lead the team to victory. On the bases, the Lady Blazers will have a strong speed advantage, having stolen 106 bases this Spring, while the Saints have swiped just 78.
The winner of the game will face off against either Real Life Christian (3-6) or Cambridge Christian (3-12) on Saturday. Neither team has played against Real Life Christian, while The Lady Blazers just recently matched up against the Lancers and came away with a tough 6-16 loss. With all four teams in the 3A Championships being very similar in talent, the 3A Championship can go to any one of the four teams.
