Blazer Baseball opened up the season at the Gulf Coast HEAT on Tuesday, taking a few innings to get their feet under them before erupting for 15 runs in the final three innings to win by mercy rule 15-1 in five innings. The top of the 3rd inning is when the Blazers struck for seven runs to take a 7-0 lead. The rally was started by
Jace Mayer as he'd get his first hit of the season on a line drive through the middle. Freshman
Bronson Hoke would follow that up with his first hit as a Blazer on a beautiful bunt down the third baseline that he'd beat the throw on. After
Hayden Rogers walked to load the bases,
Rowan Baum and Evan Posnanzki would both hit singles to the outfield to make it 3-0. After
Will Papineau grounded out to the pitcher, Baum and Poznanski would both score on passed balls.
James White would earn a walk and move across the bases before being brought in on a sacrifice fly ball by
Isaiah Miller. And
Collin Lawson would single, steal two bases, and be driven in as Mayer recorded his second hit of the inning and first RBI of the season to round out the scoring in the third inning and place the game securely in the hands of the Blazers. The Blazers wouldn't hold back in the next two innings as they recorded four runs in both the fourth and fifth inning to push their lead out to 14 at 15-1 before finishing off the game in the bottom half of the fifth inning going 1-2-3 to move to 1-0 on the season.
James White would lead the Blazers as he'd go 3-3 on the night with 2 RBI's and scoring 3 runs.
Will Papineau,
Jace Mayer,
Evan Poznanski, and
Collin Lawson all recorded two hits in the opener, while combining for 5 RBI's and 8 runs scored. In the field, the Blazers committed just one error on the night, playing a very good defensive game.
Rowan Baum started the game on the mound, going 2 innings and giving up the lone hit in the game, while
James White would come in during the third inning with the bases loaded and pitch perfect baseball the rest of the way. The lone Lions run would come in that third inning after the Blazers recorded the first out and got a Lion in a pickle, with White throwing the ball away on the play, leading to the run scoring.
The Blazers will be back in action for their home opener on Thursday against the Lions again at 6pm.
