Blazer Baseball hosted Admiral Farragut on Tuesday evening for a great game of baseball. Both teams were quiet up until the Blazers sprang for a three run inning in the fourth.
Justin Brock started the inning off with a fly ball that Farragut's shortstop misplayed, resulting in Brock standing on first base. Knowing how quiet the bats had been, Coach
Ray White called for a bunt from
Collin Lawson to move Brock to second base.
Will Papineau would hit a sacrifice fly to move Brock over to third.
James White would work a full count walk after being down 0-2, with the fourth ball being a wild pitch that scored Brock.
Evan Poznanski would come up and launch an RBI double one hopper off the fence to score White and make it 2-0 Blazers. But the Blazers weren't done yet,
Isaiah Miller would reach on a grounder to third base that the third baseman couldn't handle, moving Poznanski to third, bringing up
Jace Mayer twenty-two hits away from his season goal. Jace would come through with his fourth hit of the season, a tie for the team high, and his second RBI of the year to make it 3-0 Blazers. That proved to be all that was needed as
Rowan Baum would go five no-hit innings before faltering and giving up two runs in the sixth, leaving the game as
Bronson Hoke would come in and get the final out on three pitches for his fourteenth strikeout of the year. Hoke would silence the Blue Jacket bats in the seventh as well, adding two more strikeouts to his season stats as he earned his first save of the year. Baum earns the win going 5 2/3 innings and striking out 4, while allowing three hits and two earned runs. Brock, Poznanski, and Mayer accounted for the three hits of the Blazers as they'd capitalize on two costly errors by Admiral Farragut in that fourth inning.
The Blazers are back in action on Friday night as they travel to Fort Myers and match-up against Evangelical Christian. Evangelical is currently 4-0 on the season with early season wins at Lemon Bay (7-1) and North Port (7-0), as well as at home against Naples (11-0) and LaBelle (5-0). Evangelical faces Braden River (1-3) on Thursday.
