Blazers Use Long Ball to Crush Eagles

The Blazers traveled to the Babe Ruth Baseball Complex in Sarasota to battle with the Eagles from Sarasota Military Academy on Thursday evening. The Blazers used the long ball in the first inning to push out to a 6-0 lead before the Eagles had a chance to come to the plate. The inning started with walks by Rowan Baum and Evan Poznanski before a two out walk to James White loaded the bases for Hunter George, who also walked and reloaded the bases for Collin Lawson. Lawson, who pitched a no-hitter on Tuesday evening against Ruskin Christian, cracked his first home run of the year, a grand-slam that blew the game wide open in the first inning. But the Blazers weren't done yet, Jace Mayer decided to go back-to-back and blasted his first home run of the year as well to send the game into the bottom of the first inning with a 6-0 lead. The Blazers would give up a run in the bottom of the inning before coming back in the top of the second and scoring another four runs to really put the game out of reach for the Eagles. Justin Brock would double on a line drive to left and Rowan Baum singled on a grounder to the third baseman to put runners at 1st and 3rd. Will Papineau would continue his solid hitting as of late with runners in scoring position and single to right field to score Brock and make it 7-1 Blazers. Then, with two outs, Hunter George would get his first hit of the season after being injured for the first ten games of the season. George's hit drove in Baum and Papineau as the center fielder misplayed the ball and allowed Papineau to beat the throw into home and make it 9-1 Blazers. Lawson continued his strong week with a double to right field that drove in George. The Blazers would take the 10-1 lead into the second inning. The Blazers would score their 11th run on a failed pick-off attempt of Brock, who came all the way around to score from first base on the play. Run number 12 would come when James White scored on a wild pitch and in the same at bat, run 13 would come from a Mayer sacrifice fly that scored George to make it 13-1 in the fourth inning. The Blazers would give up one run in the bottom of the fourth, but that would end the scoring as the Blazers won by mercy rule in five innings by a score of 13-2. Hunter George, Rowan Baum, and Collin Lawson all had two hit nights. Lawson finished with the grand slam and RBI double to drive in a total of five runs on the night to lead the way for the Blazers. On the mound, Rowan Baum pitched all five innings for the Blazers, striking out seven Eagles batters and surrendering only six hits and two unearned runs.
