Blazer Baseball is hosting the WCAC Tournament this weekend, beginning Friday and ending on Saturday with the WCAC Championship being played between Friday's winners.
Friday started off with 1st seeded Sarasota Military Academy beating The Classical Academy of Sarasota 10-0 in five innings to advance to the Championship game.
In game two, Lakewood Ranch Prep started the scoring in the first inning, but couldn't push another run across as the Blazers would score in all five innings as they cross eleven straight for the mercy rule victory.
Justin Brock got things started for the Blazers in the first inning with a walk, stolen base, passed ball, and then scoring as
Evan Poznanski grounded out to the shortstop to even out the game. In the second inning,
Jace Mayer would start things off by breaking the no-hitter with a double to the fence in right center field.
Hayden Rogers would reach on an infield single and then take second base on the second pitch to put runners at second and third for Brock's second at bat. Brock would reach on an infield single as well that brought in Mayer to make the score 2-1 Blazers as the game headed into the third inning.
Will Papineau got things rolling in the third inning with a single and steal of second base.
Collin Lawson would single to right field to bring in Papineau. Lawson would also steal second base and be brought in as
Jace Mayer would come through with his second hit of the game to push the lead to 3 at 4-1. The Blazers would begin the fourth inning with a
Hayden Rogers single and
Justin Brock ground rule double that was very nearly an inside the park two run home run, but it skirted under the fence in left center to hold the batter and runners to only two bases on the play.
Evan Poznanski would single on a line drive to right center that brought in both runs to up the Blazers run count to 6. Papineau would add another run as he was standing on third base late in the inning as the Eagles pitcher balked in the seventh run.
Justin Brock would secure his only 1-2-3 inning on the mound for the game in the top of the fifth, bringing up the Blazers with a chance to end the game early.
Hunter George and
Hayden Rogers would start things off with singles to left and right field. Brock would single to left field, bringing in George and taking the score to 8-1.
Evan Poznanski would come up to the plate with runners on first and second and unleash on the ball with a bomb to centerfield that one hopped to the 360 foot centerfield fence. The blast would score both Rogers and Brock easily as Poznanski would come around to third base standing up, coming home as the throw from the shortstop would fly past the base and into the Blazers dugout, ending the game as Poznanski would become the 11th Blazer run.
The Blazers had three batters that were perfect in the game.
Justin Brock (3 runs and 2 RBI) and
Hayden Rogers (2 runs) both went 3-3, while
Will Papineau would go 2-2, scoring 2 runs.
Evan Poznanski was 2-4, bringing in 6 runs as the junior has hit the ball well late this week. Brock took the win on the mound as he went all five innings, giving up just four hits and striking out six batters.
The Blazers have now won six straight games and will play against Sarasota Military Academy on Saturday afternoon at 1pm as the visiting team.
