Blazer Baseball was hosted by Out-of-Door Academy on Tuesday evening. The Blazers started out well, with the first run coming off the bat of
Evan Poznanski as he has been hitting the ball exceptionally well this past week, batting 7-10 for the week with a home run, 2 doubles, a triple, and 14 runs batted in during the four game week. Poznanski took the first pitch, then drove a ball to deep center field and over the fence to take the 1-0 lead.
Collin Lawson was incredible on the mound, shutting down the Thunder through the first four innings with seven strikeouts and giving the Blazers momentum going into the top of the fifth inning when
Jace Mayer would reach on a dropped third strike and move to third on a
Hayden Rogers single to right field. Then
Justin Brock would drive a ball past the center fielder and bring in Mayer to push the lead to 2 as the game entered the late stages. The Thunder scored a pair of runs on two costly errors by the Blazers in the bottom of the fifth to even up the game. Lawson was unable to get out of the inning without another run crossing the plate, giving the Thunder a 3-2 lead going into the top of the sixth inning and the eventual win as the Blazers were unable to push another runner across and even up the score. The Blazers were held to just four hits, with Poznanski and Brock leading the team with an RBI each.
Lawson went the distance on the mound, giving up 3 unearned runs while striking out 9 batters, walking 3 and giving up 4 hits.
The Blazers will host the Sunshine State Athletic Association's 5A Bracket this weekend, starting out with Bell Creek on Thursday at 7pm.
