Blazer Baseball has improved to 8-6 on the year, behind a four game winning streak beginning last week with a no-hit performance by
Collin Lawson on the mound and continuing into this week with a 14-4 mercy rule win, both against Ruskin Christian.
Ruskin started out the game hot, scoring a run in the first, two in the second, and a fourth run in the third, but couldn't keep up with the Blazers as they put together two in the first, five in the second and third, and two in the fifth inning to walk off win the game due to the 10 run mercy rule. Things got started for the Blazers in the first inning with two outs and runners on the corners. The first run came when
Will Papineau stole second base, just beating out the throw from the Warriors catcher, and allowing
Rowan Baum to score on the play to tie the game at 1-1.
Collin Lawson would end up walking to put runners at first and second before a wild pitch to the backstop advanced the runners to second and third.
James White would come through with a single on a grounder past the first baseman, scoring Papineau and giving the Blazers the 2-1 lead going into the second inning. In the second inning, the Blazers found themselves down 2-3 to the Warriors and got things started as
Hunter George was hit by a pitch and
Isaiah Miller walked to put runners at first and second. Both runners would advance during the at bat, putting runners at second and third for
Justin Brock, who continued his hot hitting at the plate by lacing a double to left centerfield, scoring both runners and advancing to third on the throw home, giving the Blazers the lead again with nobody out. After Baum walked and advanced to second base with no throw,
Evan Poznanski would come through with a two RBI single through the middle to make it 6-3. Poznanski would steal second and third base, putting himself in a great position for a
Will Papineau sacrifice fly that needed ten more feet to go out over the fence, making the score 7-3 and sending the game into the third inning. With Ruskin getting another run in the top half of the third inning, the Blazers knew they needed to score more to put the game out of reach. The bottom of the third started with
Hunter George again, this time walking and advancing to third base after a steal and wild pitch.
Isaiah Miller would launch a line drive to the outfield that was just within the reach of the right fielder, scoring George on the sacrifice fly ball to make it 8-4. Brock would single, followed by walks by Baum and Poznanski to load the bases for Papineau. Papineau has been hot with runners in scoring position this past week and showed why as he singled on a fly ball to centerfield, scoring both Brock and Baum to push the lead to 6.
James White would get the final hit of the inning, launching a triple to right field that was just outside the reach of the diving right fielder, allowing Poznanski and Papineau to both score and sending White to third base with a two run triple, increasing the lead to 8 before the inning ended. With neither team scoring in the fourth and the Warriors failing to score in the top of the fifth, the Blazers came up to the plate needing just two runs to finish the game. Poznanski walked to start the inning and stole second base on the first pitch, setting up
Hayden Rogers with a runner in scoring position. Rogers singled on a grounder up the middle, scoring Poznanski. The Blazers then got singles from
Preston Hoke and
James White to load the bases as
Hunter George came back up to the plate. George ended the game with a hit-by-pitch that brought Rogers in to score the fourteenth and final run of the game.
The Blazers put together 11 hits in the game, in one of the best offensive games for the 2026 team.
James White led the way going 3-4 in the game with 3 RBI's, while
Evan Poznanski went 1-1 with 3 walks and 2 RBI's.
Will Papineau went 1-2 with 3 RBI's. The Blazers were led on the mound by a solid group for the evening with
James White getting the start and giving up three runs in two innings, leading to
Rowan Baum pitching the 3rd and 4th innings and surrendering one run, with
Bronson Hoke coming in to close out the game with three strikeouts in the fifth inning.
The Blazers will face a hot Saint Stephen's team, also coming into Thursday's game with a four game winning streak, as the Blazers look to come out of the game with their winning streak still rolling.
